Binary Blends of Diblock Copolymers: An Effective Route to Novel Bicontinuous Phases

نویسندگان

چکیده

The formation of various bicontinuous phases from binary blends linear AB diblock copolymers (DBCPs) is studied using the polymeric self-consistent field theory. theoretical study predicts that double-diamond and "plumber's nightmare" phases, which are metastable for neat copolymers, could be stabilized in block with designed dispersity, namely, composed a gyroid-forming DBCP homopolymer-like DBCP. spatial distribution different monomers reveals these two types DBCPs segregated such component localized at nodes to relieve packing frustration. Simultaneously, presence local segregation on interface regulates interfacial curvature. These mechanisms act tandem proper compositions, resulting larger stability regions novel phases.

Analytical Weak-Segregation Theory of Bicontinuous Phases in Diblock Copolymers

We compute phase diagrams for diblock copolymers in the mean-field weaksegregation regime as a function of the fraction f of A-monomers and the repulsive interaction XN. We include the ordered bicontinuous double-diamond (OBDD) phase [space

Nucleation in binary polymer blends: Effects of adding diblock copolymers

The effects of adding AB diblock copolymers to A/B binary blends on the structure and thermodynamics of critical nuclei are studied using the self-consistent field theory. At a fixed ratio of the amount of the two homopolymers, depending on the degree of polymerization and composition of the diblocks, their addition to the blends can either increase or decrease the nucleation free energy barrie...

Equilibrium emulsification of polymer blends by diblock copolymers

2014 The onset and morphology of various equilibrium emulsion phases for an A and B homopolymer mixture with diblock A-B copolymers as the compatibilizer, is investigated. Attention is focused on the relation between the relative lengths of the blocks and the elastic properties of the interfacial layer which determines the phase behavior. The curvature elastic moduli K and K, as well as the spo...

Lifshitz points in blends of AB and BC diblock copolymers

– We consider microand macro-phase separation in blends of AB and BC flexible diblock copolymers. We show that, depending on architecture, a number of phase diagram topologies are possible. Microphase separation or macrophase separation can occur, and there are a variety of possible Lifshitz points. Because of the rich parameter space, Lifshitz points of multiple order are possible. We demonstr...

Roughening transition and formation of bicontinuous structures of immiscible solvents embedded in surfactant diblock copolymers

2014 The roughening transition of the interface in a model mixture of amphiphilic diblock copolymers, two immiscible solvents and a monomeric cosurfactant is examined. The equivalence of this model with the solid-on-solid Ising magnet implies the existence of a critical cosurfactant composition XRAB for the transformation of a lamellar microemulsion phase into a bicontinuous disordered structur...
